While we wait for the new Proton X70, the 2nd-gen Geely Boyue facelift has made its debut

While Malaysians are still waiting for the upcoming facelifted Proton X70, the new facelifted Geely Boyue has just made its debut. Essentially an updated version of the second-generation Boyue (the X70 is based on the first-gen model), changes made to the car are pretty minor.

Four variants are offered with the Geely Boyue facelift. It is priced between RMB92,800 (approx. RM60,198) and RMB118,800 (approx. RM77,064).

On the outside, the facelifted Geely Boyue now comes with a new silver Geely logo, as well as a new Provence Purple exterior colour option. Also new here is a set of black design elements, which are available depending on the variant chosen. This includes the body kit, roof, roof rails, spoiler, and 19-inch wheels. Also, there are the red brake callipers for a more youthful look.

Speaking of youthful looks, the second-generation Geely Boyue overall looks rather sporty and angular, which is quite different from its predecessor. In fact, its design reminds us of cars like the Toyota RAV4 and even the GAC GS3 Emzoom.

Like its predecessor, the new Geely Boyue is fitted with a 3D fish-scale-like black front grille, boomerang-shaped LED headlights, and LED daytime running lights (DRLs) that extend across the width of the car, a design trend among Chinese cars.

The front design of the Geely Boyue is also mirrored here at the back with the LED rearlights that extend from one end to another. Like its younger sibling, the Geely Binyue, as well as the Proton X50, the Boyue also sports a quad tailpipe setup, two on each side.

Powering the second-generation Geely Boyue is the brand’s 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine, making 133 kW (181 metric hp) and 290 Nm. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), the SUV is claimed to be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds.

Moving inside, not many changes have been made to the facelifted Geely Boyue, albeit with a new Porvence Purple colour option. As standard, it is fitted with a 13.2-inch 2K central touchscreen display that runs on Geely’s Galaxy OS 2.0 infotainment system.

Placed right in front of the driver is a 10.25-inch digital instrument display. Geely has also incorporated the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 system-on-a-chip (SoC) for smoother operation of both displays.

Other interior features included here are such as the 6-way electronically powered driver’s seat and a 540° panoramic camera system. The range-topping variant also gets an Infinity sound system.

Safety-wise, the Geely Boyue comes with the brand’s Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite. This consists of features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Front Collision Warning (FCW), and so on. What do you think of the new Geely Boyue? Wouldn’t it be great if the upcoming Proton X70 is based on this model?
