Lexus LBX teased in Malaysia – launching soon with 1.5L hybrid powertrain?

Lexus Malaysia has just dropped a teaser video on its social media page, previewing several models it will be launching soon. The video first shows the RX and LM, which have already landed in the country in August 2023 and May 2024 respectively, as well as two new cars behind, one of them being the Lexus LBX.

Included with the teaser post is a caption that reads “ Ever wondered how exquisite craftsmanship can elevate electrification?”. As we know it, the LBX is offered globally with a sole 1.5-litre full hybrid system.

The Lexus LBX made its global debut in June last year and is positioned as the brand’s smallest SUV. It sits on the brand’s GA-B platform which also underpins the European Toyota Yaris Cross. Dimension-wise, the LBX measures 4,190 mm long, 1,825 mm wide, and 1,545 mm tall. It is underpinned by a 2,580 mm long wheelbase.

Lexus designed the LBX using its “Premium casual” design philosophy. At the front, it sports Lexus’ latest spindle grille design which is also featured on the brand’s latest models such as the RX and LM. Decorating its rear design is the LED rearlights that extend from one end to another.

Powering the Lexus LBX is a full hybrid system consisting of a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, contributing to a combined system output of 136 hp (metric) and 195 Nm. Paired with an E-CVT gearbox, power can be sent to either the front wheels only or all four wheels via the brand’s AWD system.

Moving inside the Lexus LBX, it can be had with either Ultrasuede and leather or synthetic leather upholstery options, depending on the variant chosen. The LBX also sports a driver-focused cockpit, featuring Lexus’ Tazuna concept, which was first seen in the latest generation NX SUV.

Other interior equipment included with the LBX are the 12.3-inch digital instrument display, vertically-oriented 9.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto support. A head-up display (HUD) is also included.

Safety-wise, the LBX is equipped with the Lexus Safety System+ ADAS suite. This includes features such as Pre-Collision System with Intersection Turn Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist/Lane Keep Assist, and Road Sign Assist.

If you always wanted a Lexus SUV, but find the UX still a little over your budget, the LBX could be something you have been waiting for.
