Spied: RHD Zeekr X spotted in Malaysia – to launch soon?

Zeekr, Geely’s premium electric vehicle (EV) sub-brand, has announced that it will be making its entrance into Malaysia soon, which will see the country welcome yet another new EV brand. Coincidentally, we managed to spot a Zeekr X here in Malaysia over the weekend. Check out our video here.

Already on sale in European left-hand drive (LHD) markets, the Zeekr X spotted here in Malaysia was a right-hand drive (RHD) unit, which possibly suggests its imminent launch here in Malaysia, as well as in other RHD markets. The car was also seen with registration plates with the letter “X” at the front and back.

According to a report by CarNewsChina, Zeekr has signed an agreement with Sentinel Automotive Sdn Bhd, which will be the brand’s distributor in the country. The brand is said to be opening stores in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Penang.

First RHD versions of the Zeekr X have also been reported to have rolled off production lines in China, with overseas deliveries to begin in the third quarter of 2024. Zeekr also made its entrance to Singapore in January this year and has signed agreements with its distributors in Thailand and Indonesia.

The premium EV brand will also be making its entrance into other RHD markets such as Australia and New Zealand soon. Aside from the X, the Zeekr 009 MPV has also been announced also be entering RHD markets soon.

The Zeekr X is built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture 2 (SEA2) EV platform, which also underpins the Smart #1, Smart #3, and the Volvo EX30. The X is Zeekr’s third model, after the Zeekr 001 and 009.

Performance-wise, the Zeekr X shares similar powertrains with the Smart #1 Premium and Brabus, namely a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) option. The former makes 272 hp (metric) and 343 Nm, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. The latter puts out 428 hp (metric) and 543 Nm, enabling the premium EV to perform the century sprint in just 3.8 seconds.

Thanks to a 66 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack, the Zeekr X has a range of up to 560 km (CLTC) with the RWD variant. The AWD variant can go as far as 512 km (CLTC).

Unlike the Smart #1, the Zeekr X packs premium features such as power-opening doors and a camera that comes with facial recognition to unlock the car’s doors. Also thrown in is a 13-speaker Yamaha sound system. What do you think of the Zeekr X? Do share your thoughts with us!
