MINI Aceman EV debuts – up to 406km range, 95kW DC charging, 2 variants

A new MINI has just made its debut, and it is the MINI Aceman. In case you’re wondering where it sits in the MINI family, it slots right in between the Cooper and the Countryman. It is also fully electric (EV) only, and upon its debut, is shown in 2 variants – the MINI Aceman E and the MINI Aceman SE.

While we may have seen leaked images of the MINI Aceman earlier, its design is still one that draws attention and discussion as it explores further upon the “polygon” look of the new Countryman. MINI says that the MINI Aceman’s underlying design theme is a hexagon and this can be seen on the headlights, grille, and even the wheel arches of the Aceman.

The entry-level MINI Aceman E gets a single electric motor that drives the front wheels. It outputs 184 hp (metric) and 290 Nm, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. It can achieve a limited top speed of 160 km/h.

The range-topping MINI Aceman SE still gets a single-motor front-wheel drive (FWD) setup, but it makes a bit more power at 218 hp and 330 Nm. The Aceman SE can do the century sprint in 7.1 seconds, onward to a top speed of 170 km/h.

Both variants also get different battery sizes with the Aceman E housing a 42.5 kWh battery and the Aceman SE housing a 54.2 kWh battery. The Aceman E has an electric range of 310 km (WLTP) while the Aceman SE has a range of 406 km (WLTP). DC charging can be done at a maximum rate of 75 kW for the Aceman E and 95 kW for the Aceman SE.

Inside, the car features a 240mm-diamter circular OLED display that runs on MINI’s Operating System 9, similar to what you would find in the all-new MINI Cooper. It also gets the brand’s first fully-fledged voice assistant that can be activated by saying “Hey MINI!”. Voice-controlled interaction is visualised on the circular OLED display by means of animation of graphic elements, typography, and an avatar.

In the advanced safety department, the MINI Aceman boasts features like the Driving Assistant Plus with additional steering and lane assistance. Thanks to twelve ultrasonic sensors and four Surround View cameras, it is able to identify vacant parking spaces with greater precision, automatically initiating parking manoeuvres where space is limited, while the new Remote Parking function of the optional Parking Assistant Pro enables the vehicle to be parked using a smartphone. This function allows the MINI Aceman to be driven out of a parking space automatically, making it easier to get into the vehicle if space to the side is too limited.
