4th-gen BMW X3 teased ahead of debut: ICE & PHEV, twin curved display

Set to make its debut in just a few weeks from now is the fourth-generation BMW X3. Ahead of its unveiling, BMW has shared teaser images of the new-generation SAV during its testing phase, albeit in camouflage. The company has also been kind enough to share a few improvement details of the new X3.

Currently being tested in Miramas, some significant changes on the new X3 can be observed. This includes a new roofline, a new set of wheels, a new spoiler design, and a revamped interior with the latest brand’s twin curve display setup. BMW has also revealed that the new X3 will be available with both internal combustion engine (ICE) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. There has been no mention of an iX3 equivalent just yet.

Although not much else has been revealed, BMW has shared some information on the technical improvements on the new X3. This includes:

  • A wider track
  • Reduced lift on the rear axle
  • 19% increase in the caster of the front wheels
  • A more direct steering ratio that enhances steering comfort
  • New extensively modified anti-roll bars
  • Optional adaptive chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers
  • BMW Lateral Dynamics Management as standard
  • Latest BMW i Drive with BMW Operating System 9
  • New twin curved display
Although covered, you can notice the new twin curved display of the new BMW X3.

BMW says the new X boasts a drag coefficient of 0.27 which sets a new standard in its competitive environment. Most of the improvements to the car have been done with the aim of achieving precision, sovereignty, and versatility that characterizes the driving experience in a BMW SAV.

The new BMW X3 has already undergone extensive testing on snow and ice, in extremely hot regions and off-road on its way to series production. The SAV’s suitability for everyday use and traveling was tested and refined in urban stop-and-go traffic as well as on winding country roads, highways and selected race tracks.
