Malaysia is the 1st outside of Germany to assemble Mercedes-AMG cars with “1 Man, 1 Engine”

Malaysia is the first country outside of Germany to assemble a Mercedes-AMG car with the brand’s hand-built engine using its “One Man, One Engine” philosophy. This piece of information was confirmed by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia CEO, Amanda Zhang during the launch of the facelifted Mercedes-Benz GLS, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, and the Mercedes-AMG S63 at the brand’s showroom in Bangsar. The specific model in question is the Mercedes-AMG C43 4MATIC, which made its preview in Malaysia last year, but has yet to make its official launch in the country just yet.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia CEO, Amanda Zhang explained that the delay in the Mercedes-AMG C43’s launch in Malaysia is due to some approvals needed to be done with relevant authorities. However, local production (CKD) for the sports sedan has started in Malaysia. No launch date has been confirmed for the sports sedan just yet.

The engine powering the Mercedes-AMG C43 4MATIC is the brand’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, similar to the one found underneath the hood of the A 45 S. Mated to the AMG SpeedShift 9-speed DCT gearbox, the engine produces 408 hp and 500 Nm, slightly lesser than the 421 hp and 500 Nm the A 45 S makes. Power is sent to all four wheels via the brand’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.

As the “One Man, One Engine” tagline suggests, the Mercedes-AMG engine in the C43 4MATIC that will be sold in Malaysia is hand-built by a single engineer, referred to by the carmaker as the Master Engine Builder, at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kolleda, Germany. The engines will also bear an engraved plaque with the signature of its creator, giving them a personal touch.

All AMG engines, with the exception of the “35” M260 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo and the “43” M276 3.0-litre V6 Bi-Turbo engine, as well as various other “43” and “53” models powered by the carmaker’s new M256 straight-6 engine, are hand built using Mercedes-AMG’s “One Man, One Engine” philosophy. There are only about 50 AMG engine builders according to Mercedes-Benz.
