Christmas 2023: Toll-free travels on December 23 and 26

The Works Ministry has announced that highway travels will be toll-free on December 23 and 26, in conjunction with the upcoming Christmas festivities. The toll fare waiver will apply to all vehicle types at all toll plazas nationwide, except for those at national borders – specifically Tol Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Plaza Tol Tanjung Kupang (Linkedua).

According to a press release, the toll fare waiver is meant to help reduce the financial burden for all Malaysians who are planning to travel – either for balik kampung or vacation with their family – during the festive and school holiday period, in line with the government’s Malaysia Madani ethos.

The dates were also specifically selected to ease traffic on the highways for those travelling back to their hometowns and during their return to the city, and also to optimise the operation and coordination of additional logistic needs involving third parties along the lay-by and R&R stops along the highway.

Highway users travelling during the festive periods are advised to plan their trips according to the travel time advisory (TTA) schedule released by the various highway concessionaires to help manage traffic load. For the North-South highway, PLUS has released a digital travel time advisory through its mobile app.
