Lamborghini has confirmed that its first fully electric vehicle (EV) will make its debut in 2028 and that it will take the form of a 2+2 grand tourer. The announcement was made together with the press release on the success of the sales of the Lamborghini Revuelto.

The Italian carmaker has previously committed to the hybridization of its entire model lineup by 2024. Just recently, Lamborghini has marked the end of its pure V10 internal combustion engine (ICE) drive system with the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato. The company later debuted its new tri-motor hybrid powertrain with the Lamborghini Revuelto.

From a sales report back in November 2022, Lamborghini has already announced its departure fromk pure ICE powertrains. The company said, “A final farewell to the pure combustion engine will be made at the end of the year at Art Basel in Miami with an all-terrain version of the Huracán [Hinting at the then-upcoming Sterrato], a model once again destined to impress and create a new segment in the super sports car world.”

As for the Lamborghni Revuelto, the company says that “is a milestone in the history of Lamborghini, and an important pillar in our [Lamborghini’s] Direzione Cor Tauri electrification strategy”. It boasts a V12 Tri-motor PHEV powertrain.

Lamborghini Estoque – Clearly not an EV

In March this year, Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Motor1 that its first-ever electric model will cover a blind spot within the company’s model line-up. He said, “It’s going to be a new body style, because what is missing in the line-up today is a GT 2+2, and I think this would be a good add-on to the two super-sports cars and the SUV.” With the statement officially released by Lamborghini, we can now confirm the company’s EV plans.
