Lexus LBX teased – shares TNGA platform with Yaris Cross

Lexus has just teased its new entry-level SUV that will be added to its European model lineup. Known as the Lexus LBX, the upcoming small luxury SUV will be positioned under the UX compact SUV and is said to become the Japanese luxury carmaker’s top seller.

Planned to be unveiled on June 5, 2023, in Milan Italy, the Lexus LBX will be the first Lexus model with a three-letter naming structure. All Lexus models thus far have been named after a two-letter naming structure, such as the RX, NX, ES and CT.

Looking at teaser pictures of the Lexus LBX, its front end features Lexus’ new grille style, as well as a newly designed daytime running light (DRL). This is different from Lexus’ usual Nike-esque DRL design. The second picture of the LBX teaser shows the car’s rear lights that run across the rear of the car.

Lexus mentioned that the LBX is expected to be its best-selling model in Europe, which is a title currently held by the UX compact SUV. Since rolling out the UX, Lexus’ sales have seen an 80% boost, and the company hopes the LBX will help boost its sales even further.

The upcoming small Lexus SUV will sit beneath the Lexus UX in the brand’s model lineup and will be sharing the same TNGA platform as the Europe and Japanese market Toyota Yaris Cross platform. However, this platform is totally different from the one underpinning the Yaris Cross recently launched in Indonesia, as that utilises the DNGA platform. Despite carrying the same Yaris Cross name, the two models are totally different inside and out as well.
