Mercedes-Benz has given a facelift to the Mercedes-Benz GLE, now making it an electrified-only car (including the AMG versions) and introducing a new 400 e plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant to replace the 350 e PHEV. Including the AMG versions of the facelifted GLE, there are 7 trims of the car with each trim offered in both SUV and ‘Coupe’ body styles.

The facelift has subtly tweaked the look of the Mercedes-Benz GLE, giving it a new headlight cluster that features a new daytime running light (DRL) design. The facelifted GLE also gets new bumpers and new wheels as part of the refresh. Like the headlights, the taillights have also been refreshed subtly.
As for powertrains, there are now 7 powertrains with 2 being AMG powertrains, 3 being mild hybrid (MHEV) powertrains, and 2 being PHEV powertrains. The AMG powertrains are electrified as well.

New to the GLE is the powertrain in the GLE 400 e 4MATIC PHEV which consists of a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and an electric motor. Combined, the system makes 280 kW (381 hp metric) and 600 Nm. The 400 e accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/h.
On electric drive alone, the 400 e has a maximum WLTP range of 105 km for the SUV version and 107 km for the Coupe version. Charging can be done at a rate of 11 kW with AC charging, which is the same for the GLE 350 de 4MATIC.

The AMG versions consist of the 53 AND 63. Performance remains the same for the AMG 63 GLE, but the AMG 53 has been given a boost in torque thanks to a larger turbocharger and revised programming.

Inside the GLE now gets the latest-generation steering wheel with touch elements on the left and right. Also new is a “personal sound setup” and a Dolby immersive audio experience’” as part of the Burmester surround sound system. Mercedes-Benz has comprehensively integrated many music streaming providers into the MBUX infotainment system.
Other updates to the GLE include the latest generation of MBUX, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a more interactive “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant which is capable of learning by activating online services in the Mercedes me App.
