BMW offers in-car football live streaming in a test programme, projected on Curved Display

BMW has announced that it’s the first car manufacturer to provide Bundesliga German football league content in a vehicle in a pilot test. To access the Bundesliga in-car app’s functions, the user will have to activate the Personal eSIM in their respective BMW vehicles. The system utilises the vehicle’s antenna to provide high-speed 5G football streaming via mobile date services.

Selected content from the Bundesliga – Germany premier football league – will be made available via an app on the BMW Curved Display – as seen on models such as the BMW iX and the facelift 3 Series; both of which are available in Malaysia.

The Bundesliga in-car app will also be available in the new BMW 7 Series but for now, it’s only limited for use in Germany. BMW said the feature will eventually be rolled out to other regions of Europe, America and Asia. The pilot programme is scheduled to run until March 31, 2024.

For safety reasons, the video content in the Bundesliga in-car app will only be available for viewing while the vehicle is stationary. This should also help users get through waiting times when the vehicle is being charged at charging stations. Last year, BMW announced a partnership with AirConsole, an online video game provider, to offer video games in BMW vehicles with the Curved Display.

The pilot programme focuses on on-demand content such as highlights or match data, but will also offer selected live content. When the vehicle is moving, users will only be able to listen to an audio stream of the contents. BMW pointed out that it expands to other regions, it will continuously improve the Bundesliga in-car app via over-the-air updates.
