Video: 2022 BYD Atto 3 electric SUV now in Malaysia, from RM149,800

The Chinese EV onslaught in Malaysia is truly in full force now, with yet another EV SUV now making its debut for our market. This time, we’re welcoming BYD into Malaysia with the launch of the Atto 3 fully-electric crossover.

Distributed by Sime Darby Beyond Auto, the BYD Atto 3 will be offered with two variants here in Malaysia, with prices starting from RM149,800 for the Standard Range variant, and RM167,800 for the Extended Range variant.

Both variants share a majority of their feature sets and specifications, including the propulsion system underneath the sheet metal. Both variants are powered by a single electric motor on the front axle, which delivers 203 hp and 310 Nm to the front wheels, translating to a century sprint time of 7.3 seconds.

The Standard Range variant gets a 49.9 kWh battery for 345 km of driving range (WLTP), while the Extended Range variant houses a 60.5 kWh battery for 420 km of emissions-free driving. Charging can be done via the on-board 6.6kW AC charger, or 70 kW of DC fast charging on the Standard Range variant, and 80 kW for the Extended Range.

The highlight of the BYD Atto 3 is actually in its interior, thanks to its unique “Muscle Streamline” design language, and a unique party trick that rotates the central 12.8-inch central touchscreen display at a touch of a button.

Both variants of the BYD Atto 3 are equipped with the same advanced safety assist systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop & Go, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Door Open Warning (DOW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
