For Malaysia Day 2022, BMW Group Malaysia and the M owners Malaysia community gathered over 120 BMW M cars in Kuala Lumpur. Being the largest BMW M gathering in Malaysia, BMW Group Malaysia also took this as an opportunity to award winners of the “search for the oldest BMW M models of each model series” in the country.
A group of BMW M cars joined a convoy from Ingress Auto Damansara to Lalaport Bukit Bintang to celebrate the 59th Malaysia Day. At the destination, the public had the opportunity to see the high-performance BMW M cars up close.
BMW Group Malaysia Managing Director, Hans de Visser said in his officiation speech, “This year, as we commemorate five decades of rich history as one team with a united passion for BMW M; let us not forget the unity of Malaysians as one nation who are also celebrating 59 years of national identity.”
“It is a true delight to witness this passion that Malaysians have for the brand in full strength, demonstrating not only their pride and love for our motorsport division but for Malaysia on such a significant day as well. We hope that the Most Powerful Letter in the World will continue to resonate with the diverse yet close-knit BMW M community here.”

Earlier this year, BMW Group Malaysia announced a nationwide competition in search for “the oldest BMW M models of each model series in the country”. The contest is in celebration of 50 years of the BMW M Division. Three of the six winning BMW M cars were placed on special display during the gathering. Winners of the contest are:
- Han Kim Leng, 1981 BMW M535i (E12)
- Harris Mah Kar Keat – 1988 BMW M3 (E30)
- Lim Shin Tom – 1991 BMW M5
- Gan Kian Yeh – 2006 BMW M6 (E63)
- Tan Kai Che – 2015 BMW M4
- Tee Yee Jiuh – 2017 BMW M2
