Two years after its introduction here on our shores, BMW Malaysia has now updated the locally-assembled X5 xDrive45e M Sport for 2022 with several additional aesthetic and safety features, alongside a slight hike in pricing, now priced at RM457,498.
The biggest update on the exterior comes in the form of the BMW Laserlight headlights, which is said to offer a greater and wider illumination than the previous bi-LED units, enhancing visibility on the road. The matrix headlight system will also come with Selective Beam, which automatically blocks out parts of the headlights to prevent glaring other vehicles.
The plug-in hybrid BMW X5 xDrive45e also now comes with a set of larger style 741M 21-inch alloy wheels, finished in Orbit Grey as standard. But aside from these updates, the rest of the exterior remains unchanged from before, with the “Sports Activity Vehicle” (SAV) still featuring the sportier M Sport body kit.
Other updates on the 2022 BMW X5 xDrive45e come in the form of its safety kit, with two additional side airbags inside the cabin for the second-row passengers, bringing the total count up to eight airbags.
The new BMW X5 xDrive45e will also feature Active Protection, which is essentially Munich’s version of Mercedes-Benz’s Pre-Safe system that automatically arms the cabin in preparation of an unavoidable accident. The seatbelts also now come with a reversible pre-tensioning system, which automatically tightens the seatbelt to the ideal tension based on the passenger’s body.
No changes are made to the car’s active safety kit, however, with L2 autonomous driving features like adaptive cruise control and lane centring assist being the notable omissions here. The standard Driving Assistant package still comes with the same list of features as before, including autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and blind-spot monitor.
Also unchanged is the powertrain underneath the bonnet, with a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine paired to an electric motor for a total system output of 394 hp and 600 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed Sport automatic gearbox and the xDrive all-wheel drive system.
As mentioned above, the new 2022 BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport is now priced at RM457,498 on the road and without insurance, making it roughly RM6k more expensive than the outgoing car. The sales tax exemption, which has now been confirmed to not be extended past 30 June, is also included in the price, so you’ll have about 10 days to get your orders in for the price above.
The price also includes the optional extended warranty package, which increases the warranty from the standard two years to a five-year unlimited-mileage coverage, alongside the free scheduled service programme.
