Video: 2022 Mk8 Volkswagen Golf GTI in Malaysia from RM211k, 5 Things

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has launched the all-new Mk8 Golf GTI in Malaysia. It’s priced at RM211,689 and is locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang. It’s the first time a Golf GTI was assembled outside of Germany and China.

Obviously, the exterior looks completely different from the previous Mk7.5 model but the most standout feature has to be the new white lightbar that connects the headlamps; fitted with IQ.Light LED technology.

The Mk8 Golf GTI is available in five different colours – Kings Red, Atlantic Blue, Moonstone Grey, Deep Black, and Oryx White.

The new Mk8 Golf GTI now pushes out 245 hp and 370 Nm, from a new EA888 2.0-litre engine, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG). 0 to 100 km/h is done in 6.4 seconds.

Inside, the Mk8 Golf GTI is now almost entirely void of buttons and switches. Most of which have been replaced by ‘icon’ with haptic-touch feedback. You get a fully-digital instrument cluster, a large 10-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 3-zone air conditioning, and a 30-colour ambient lighting system.

Interestingly, while the Golf GTI may come with six airbags, it does not come with any driver aid at all – not even the autonomous emergency braking feature. Hmm.
