If there’s ever such a group of pick-up enthusiasts who’ve been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the all-new Mazda BT-50 pick-up, the wait is now over.
The BT-50 is based on the all-new D-Max, and is available in two variants; with either a 1.9-litre or 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine. Only double cab body styles are available.
Under the hood, the 3.0-litre engine pushes out 190 hp and 450 Nm while the 1.9-litre engine is rated at 150 hp and 350 Nm. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
As you can tell from the exterior design, the BT-50 comes with Mazda’s signature look with a gaping front grille and slim LED headlamps. As for the rear taillights, it looks almost like a carbon copy of the pair in the old D-Max.
On the inside, the similarities with the all-new D-Max is much more apparent. Except for the Mazda-esque steering wheel, everything else has been taken over from the D-Max which in hindsight is not exactly the worst thing.
As such, the BT-50 inherits a large infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the same multi-information display on the instrument cluster and dual-zone air conditioning. For some distinction, Mazda added knee pads by the centre console for extra cushioning.
The all-new Mazda BT-50 is now open for booking with prices starting from RM124,179.20 for the 1.9-litre variant and RM143,218.40 for the 3.0-litre variant. Each unit comes with a 5-year/100,000 km warranty.
