Interstate travelling to open soon – tourism sector to reopen from 1st Oct

Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced the reopening of many economic sectors beginning of October 2021. As earlier reported, eateries, petrol stations, convenience stores and mini markets are allowed to operate from 6:00 a.m. to 12 midnight, with effect from today, September 23rd.

Other exclusions, regardless of the states’ Phase under the National Recovery Plan (NRP) include the green light for interstate travelling, the opening of tourist attractions and vacation islands nationwide. This is however subjected to Malaysia’s adult population achieving a fully vaccinated rate of 90%.

Currently, the percentage of fully vaccinated adult population in Malaysia is 81%, with over 93% having at least one dose.

The decision to tremendously ease up the movement restrictions was decided by the Special Committee on Pandemic Management after considering hospital ICU utilisation rate, number of symptomatic cases as well as the percentage of vaccinated population.

Meanwhile, sectors that have closed for the longest time due to close physical contact such as spa, wellness centres and health massage centres are allowed to operate at full capacity from October 1st with the condition that both patrons and staff are fully vaccinated.

The same condition to operate also applies to other points of interest such as zoos, aquariums, scuba diving centres and forest parks.

For us working adults, be prepared to have the ‘work from home’ directive ended as the government has allowed employers to have a full capacity in the workplace provided that all employees are also fully vaccinated.

You do not need to rush to renew your JPJ road tax and driving license, as the deadline has been extended to Dec 31st. Read more about it here.

The statement also mentioned that a Covid-19 RT-PCR test must be done upon arrival at main international entry points, with foreign nationals required to bear the costs. The test is free for Malaysian citizens.

For those who are planning to travel, ensure that your vehicle is in good operating condition, such as inflated tyres with sufficient tread depth, a healthy battery and has valid insurance coverage.
