VW doubles down on saving the Malayan Tapir with “Modern Nostalgia pt.2” apparel

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) and local denim streetwear brand Tarik Jeans are now back again with the second instalment of the exclusive capsule collection, “Modern Nostalgia pt. 2”, after its successful first collaboration back in February in a bid to raise awareness and raise funds for the preservation of the endangered Malayan Tapir.

Just like the first instalment, “Modern Nostalgia pt.2” is a limited-run capsule collection. However, unlike the first instalment which featured Volkswagen models combined with Tarik’s local vintage design elements, this second collection draws more of its inspiration from raw, rugged and hands-on workshop life.

The new designs aim to capture Volkswagen’s racing heritage and spirit whilst infusing it with performance-themed colours that petrolheads and car enthusiasts alike will approve. “Modern Nostalgia pt. 2” comprises of a variety of premium apparels such as denim jackets that retail at RM259, work shirts at RM159 and t-shirts at RM79.

The complete “Modern Nostalgia” collection can be purchased on Tarik Jeans’ website, Shopee and Zalora. A total of 50% of all proceeds generated from the sales of the collection will be donated to the Kenaboi Forest Reserve in Negeri Sembilan on World Tapir Day on 27th April 2021.

The Malayan tapir is the only Asian species native to the island of Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia and Southern Thailand with a distinctive coat pattern.

The tapir has a lifespan of up to 30 years. Ufortunately agricultural developments and deforestation, being hunted for food and sport, and illegal animal trafficking have resulted in an alarming decrease in their numbers. It is estimated that there are only less than 3,000 of them left.
