Aston Martin Kuala Lumpur unveils the Rapide AMR – only 2 of 210 in Malaysia

Aston Martin Kuala Lumpur has officially brought into Malaysia two of the 210-units-only Aston Martin Rapide AMR, which was first introduced at the Geneva motor show in 2018 with several mechanical and aesthetic improvements to mark the brand’s return to the Le Mans 24 hours.

The two cars – one each of the Standard and Signature schemes – are the last two units of the Rapide AMR in the entire Southeast Asia, with prices starting at RM1.1 million excluding duties and taxes.

At the heart of the souped-up four-door super sedan is a 6.0-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine, upgraded with larger inlet manifolds and quad exhaust system to produce 603 hp and 630 Nm of torque, with power sent to the rear wheels via a recalibrated eight-speed Touchtronic III automatic gearbox.

The extra performance results in a 0-100 km/h time of seconds, onward to a top speed of 330 km/h. To help cope with the extra power, the Aston Martin Rapide AMR is fitted (for the first time on the Rapide) with carbon ceramic brake discs measuring 400 mm and 360 mm front and rear, paired to six- and four-piston calipers respectively.

The massive brakes are paired to 21-inch alloys – which is a first in any Aston Martin for those keeping track – which not only strengthens rigidity but also improve cooling for the brakes, along with an upgraded cooling system featuring modified brake ducts and dust shields adapted from the Rapide S.

The Rapide AMR sits 10mm lower than the Rapide S, and while the three stage adaptive dampers are retained, they’ve been thoroughly re-engineered for better agility.

Standing out from the regular Aston Martin Rapide, the AMR edition gets a mesh finish on its grille, circular daytime-running lights inspired by the Zagato models, along with a long list of lightweight aerodynamic components such as the new ventilated bonnet, splitters, sills, rear diffuser and boot lid spoiler – all made of carbon fibre.

The Standard Rapide AMR is finished in an Onyx Black exterior colour scheme, paired with the signature AMR Lime accents on the splitter, sills and rear diffuser. The Signature model meanwhile gets a Stirling Green paint job paired to an AMR Lime stripe which runs from the front emblem all the way to the rear bootlid, as well as the obligatory lime-green accents from the Standard variant.

The stripe is mirrored inside on the roof lining, front and rear centre armrests, as well as the Alcantara-wrapped seats. The entire centre console is made from carbon fibre for additional weight savings, and the dashboard is completed by a new steering wheel taken from the One-77.

As mentioned earlier, only two units of the Aston Martin Rapide AMR will be available in Malaysia, with prices starting at RM1.1 million before duties and taxes.
