Video: 2020 Porsche Cayman GT4, 5 Things

Modern Porsches are all well and good, some even with speeds that can be genuinely frightening to the mortal souls like us. But sometimes, nothing feels better than just the basics – good handling, revvy engine, and a good old manual transmission.

Porsche knows this as well, evidently with the recent introduction of cars such as the 911 Speedster to bring back the pure Porsche driving experience. Well, if RM2.7 million sounds just a bit too much for you, the new 718 Cayman GT4 might just be the ultimate sports car for driving enthusiasts.

Unlike the GT4 of old, the all-new 718 Cayman GT4 is powered by a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six engine derived from the 911 Carrera family. Power output is rated at 420 hp and 420 Nm, with peak power available all the way near the top of the rev range at 7,600 RPM.

Handling chops are provided by the GT chassis, which comes as standard on the new Cayman GT4, along with significantly enhanced aerodynamic devices such as the more efficient rear wing and a more elaborate diffuser – the latter responsible for up to 30% of the downforce at the rear axle.

Inside, the Cayman GT4 gets a simple yet functional cabin, only featuring the essentials, all within the driver’s reach, so the focus lies within what’s important – driving. For the track day enthusiasts, the Clubsport package adds a rear steel roll bar, hand-held fire extinguisher, and a six-point harness for the driver.

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is now available in Malaysia starting at a base price of RM999,000. Though if specced similarly to the one in the video with the aforementioned Clubsport package, the retail price sits closer to the RM1.3 million mark.

For the fans of wind-in-the-hair motoring but still want the pure driving experience, Porsche Malaysia has also introduced the 718 Spyder on our shores, based on the same technical platform as the Cayman GT4 – read more about it here.
