Hamilton and Bottas celebrates double championship win with Petronas at the Twin Towers

Having made history by becoming the first team in Formula 1 history to win six consecutive double championships, Petronas celebrated its 6th consecutive World Constructor’s Championship here at the Petronas Twin Towers in the presence of team drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

The Silver Arrows sealed the double this year in Japan after Bottas claimed the race win, while Hamilton further etched his name in the history books at the US Grand Prix as the second most successful F1 driver behind Michael Schumacher.

There was indeed much to celebrate for both drivers, team and Petronas. Since the introduction of hybrid powertrains in 2014, Petronas had accompanied the Silver Arrows to six double World Championships.

In 10 seasons of partnership, they have scored a total of 92 Grand Prix victories in 196 races, 102 pole positions and lifted 193 trophies.

Here are the testimonies from both drivers and team principal of Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Motorsport:

(Hamilton) “It’s become a great tradition that PETRONAS invite us to their headquarters to celebrate the championships together – they’re a very important part of the team, and we could not have done this without them. Together, we have achieved something that has never been done before – six consecutive double championships!

“This incredible success is down to the hard work and dedication of every single member of our Mercedes-AMG Petronas motorsport family. Thanks to everyone at Petronas for your continuous support over the last ten years. We will keep pushing next season and hope to elevate our game together again.”

(Bottas) “This has been my best season yet in Formula One and I am very grateful for all the hard work that went into making this possible. Our 2019 car is an absolute beast and the contribution from everyone at PETRONAS is right at the heart of it. The fuel and lubricants are the lifeblood of our car. I know that it’s not just our team-mates back at Brackley and Brixworth that are already working flat-out to find even more performance for next year’s car, it’s also a lot of colleagues here at Petronas who will unlock even more power for our 2020 car.

(Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Motorsport, Team Principal and CEO, Toto Wolff ) “Petronas has been our partner from day one – they have been by our side every step of the way, ever since we returned to F1 with our works team in 2010. Back then, no one would have imagined that this unprecedented success would be possible. But we wrote Formula One history together, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport is the first team in F1 to win six consecutive double titles. And there’s a very good reason that nobody else has been able to do this before – because it is incredibly difficult.
