This could be the first image of the upcoming G80 BMW M3

It seems like the netizens have gotten a hold of a leaked image of the much-awaited BMW M3 ahead of its launch.

Circulating on the Bimmerpost forum, the single leaked image only shows the rear view of the unannounced BMW M3, developed under the codename G80, on what looks like a production line.

However, even with just one image we can see the tell-tale signs of a BMW M car are present, including the gloss-black ducktail spoiler and flared wheel arches.

The purported BMW M3 also features quad exhaust tips, split into sets of two on both sides. The exhaust tips sit quite close to the centre of the rear facade, which reminds us of the E46 M3.

Centre quad exhaust pipes… Seems familiar?

The exhaust pipes are surrounded by a rear apron that features elaborate diffuser details. However, the black moulding surrounding the diffusers seems to be generating quite a bit of discussion among BMW enthusiasts.

The roof of the car in the leaked image is also painted in body colour – BMW fans online say it’s called Toronto Red. From the image, we aren’t sure if the G80 M3 will be featuring the carbon fibre roof as seen on other M cars, such as the M8 Gran Coupe and M5.

We expect the G80 M3 to utilise BMW’s S58 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six engine – which was used in the BMW X3 M and X4 M – that’s good for 510 hp and 600 Nm. There was also word that the new BMW M3 will be available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants, in both automatic and manual transmissions.

With a few more months to go before the estimated launch date of the new G80 BMW M3, we expect to see a bit more information of the upcoming high-performance sedan in the coming months. What do you think about this, folks?
