Audi to launch 12 production EVs by 2025, SUVs, coupes & sedans planned

At the global premiere of the all-electric Audi e-Tron SUV in San Francisco, Audi also took the opportunity to highlight the brand’s commitment towards pure electric vehicles (EV). A total of 12 production EVs will bear the four-rings emblem by 2025 starting with the e-Tron SUV and Audi is prepared to offer one EV in all key market segments from the high-volume A segment to the large-sized D segment.

The electric portfolio is spearheaded by two SUVs, the e-Tron and the e-Tron Sportback debuting in 2019. A new electric platform based on the e-Tron GT concept will be presented by the end of 2018 at the LA Auto Show. The e-Tron GT will be a dynamic couple with flat floor assembly and its inner workings were developed in collaboration with Porsche, so you know the car’s character is packed with Audi DNA.

Audi and Porsche are also working together on a Premium Platform Electric (PPE) that is being developed from the ground up exclusively for electric drivetrains. It will be the basis for multiple Audi EV models covering from B to D segments of the market and naturally, dedicated SUV styles are also part of the plan.

For the smaller, but high-volume A segment, Audi is collaborating with several other Volkswagen Group brands on the development of a modular electrification platform (MEB) which like PPE, is developed for electrified powertrains from the ground up. This platform will be served as a basis for lower range EV models in the Audi range and one of these is being developed specifically for China, the single most important market for Audi.

Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG, Peter Mertens said: “In the future, virtually every market segment will include models powered by a combination of electric motors and a combustion engine, and that can be charged at an electric outlet.”

“The Audi e-tron is definitely a highlight in the history of our company and the starting signal for our electrification strategy,” Mertens added.
