Nissan Leaf gets NISMO treatment, handling upgrades & sportier looks

Nissan has just unveiled their first ever electric vehicle (EV) to join NISMO’s road car line up. The Nissan Leaf NISMO which will go on sale in Japan on 31 July 2018, gets extensive chassis upgrades, bolder look and a sportier interior.

Nissan’s motorsports and in-house tuning arm have given the standard Leaf a makeover with a new front bumper, front grille, side sills, rear bumper with diffuser inserts and 18-inch aerodynamic aluminium alloy wheels wrapped in Continental ContiSportContact 5 rubbers.

The new look gives the Leaf NISMO improved downforce without compromising on drag coefficient. A total of nine exterior colours are available with the sporty EV with selected colour palette receive a black dual tone finish.

NISMO’s sporty intentions are extended to the cabin with new seat design with red accents, three-spoke steering wheel with a red centre mark, custom electronic shifter as well as NISMO specific instrument cluster gauges. A carbon-like finish is also applied generously on the interior trims.

Like the Serena NISMO that came before it, the Leaf’s powertrain was untouched, packing 147 hp and 320 Nm of twist from its electric motor. Its theoretical driving range of 378 km is expected to take a slight hit due to the larger wheels and stickier rubbers.

However, NISMO has given the Leaf a comprehensive chassis upgrade, recalibrating the cars electric power steering, shock absorbers, Electric Driven Intelligent Brakes, Vehicle Computer Management, Intelligent Trace Control, Vehicle Dynamics Control (traction and stability control) as well as ABS to allow the hatchback corner harder and faster.

Local Nissan distributor, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has confirmed that the all-new Nissan Leaf will be making its Malaysian debut sometime in 2018.
