McLaren 600LT unveiled, not just a kitted out 570S

McLaren has just welcomed its latest “Longtail” McLaren to the stable, the McLaren 600LT. Based on the 570S, the 600LT is the most track-focused variant of the brand’s Sports Series.

To deliver the performance expectations for an LT, the M838T 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 has been tweaked to deliver 600 hp and 620 Nm of torque thanks to an uprated cooling system and reduced back pressure in the exhaust system. McLaren claims the 600LT’s exhaust system is even shorter and more extreme than the Senna, bold claims this is. Unfortunately, the company did not reveal key performance figures of their latest LT.

To go with the uprated output, McLaren has given the 600LT quicker steering, sharper throttle response, better brake pedal feel as well as firmer engine mounts. It also rides on bespoke Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R sticky tyres.

While the 600LT does not command the same visual impact as the 675LT when it first came out, rest assured that the car has undergone some extensive upgrades over the 570S. The 600LT is 74 mm longer than the car it was based on thanks to extended front splitter and diffuser as well as the fixed rear wing that was inspired from the 675LT. In total, the 600LT features 23 per cent different parts over the standard 570S.

The 600LT was also put through a diet programme, shaving 96 kg in the process, thanks to the extensive use of carbon fibre bodywork and lightened exhaust system. Customers who are looking for further weight savings can give McLaren Special Operations (MSO) a call and they will gladly change the roof, cantrails and front fenders to carbon fibre items. With every lightweight option fitted, the 600LT tips the scale at 1,247 kg.

Inside, the cabin spots unique endplates, more exposed carbon fibre trims and Alcantara upholstery. Customers can choose two seat options for the 600LT – Carbon Fibre Racing seats or Super Lightweight Carbon Fibre Seats for the ultimate track car experience.

Production Volume of the McLaren 600LT will be strictly limited and production will commence in October 2018. Prices for the 600LT starts from £185,500 (RM982K) before options and includes a Pure McLaren Road Owner Track Day experience.
