Pre-production BMW X7 rolls off assembly line, official debut in late 2018

Shortly after the unveiling of the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the first pre-production model has just rolled out of the assembly line at BMW Group’s Spartanburg plant in USA. The flagship SUV also gets an official name too – BMW X7 Sports Activity Vehicle.

BMW has started the countdown to the official debut of the X7 which will be presented at the end of 2018. At the moment, the car is in its final stages of R&D awaiting to undergo various extreme durability tests, homologation and registration.

Based on the teaser images released by BMW, we can tell that the production model has a more conventional look as opposed to the concept car, but some design cues have been carried over – slim LED headlamp design, large kidney grille and angular lower bumper. The pre-production car was camouflaged the moment it was put together to throw off prying eyes.

BMW Group Spartanburg Head of Plant, Knudt Flor said: “We are proud to produce the BMW X7 here in Spartanburg, the home of our X models. This is a very special vehicle and our employees are looking forward to yet a further member of the X family. Together with the BMW X7, a total of five BMW X models will be exported from Spartanburg to all four corners of the globe.”
