Subaru WRX STI S208 unveiled, more power & better handling, 450 units only!

The 2017 Tokyo Motor Show will go into full swing in about a months’ time but that is not stopping carmakers to give us a little taste of what is to come at the largest auto show in Japan. Subaru is kicking things off with the WRX STI S208, a limited-edition literation of its high-performance sedan that succeeds the S207 that was introduced back in 2015.

Aesthetically, the S208 gets an extensive body rework to include a carbon roof as well as exclusive front and rear bumpers to aid aerodynamics. The new rear wing should also contribute to the cars overall performance. It also gets a unique Cool Grey paintjob to highlight its exclusivity. Inside, the S208 also gets some exclusive trims.

Besides the additional go-fast bits, engineers at Subaru and STI have given the S208 a slight performance boost over the standard WRX STI. Subaru has hinted at “improved engine output and acceleration and a lower centre of gravity” although exact upgrades will only be announced during the launch.

Subaru will only be producing 450 units of the Subaru WRX STI S208 and will sell them through official channels in Japan. Acquiring one of these super saloon is not as straightforward as walking to a dealership and putting a deposit down. In anticipation of its wide market acceptance, Subaru will only sell it to lucky individuals who were picked from the lottery, further adding to its exclusivity. More details of Subaru’s limited edition WRX STI will be announced at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.
