Peugeot 3008 plug-in hybrid with 300 hp confirmed for production!

Peugeot bosses have finally given the green light for a hot plug-in hybrid version of the handsome Peugeot 3008 SUV. It won’t bear the GTI badge nor come with a six-speed close ratio manual transmission, but what it will get is 300 horsepower.

Power comes from a combination of the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol (the same lump we will be getting) and an electric motor mounted to the rear axle. This means the 3008 will be all-wheel drive. It would sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in six seconds and would max out at 240 km/h. However, it’s still unclear if there will be one or two electric motors.

In fact, the good news doesn’t stop with the 3008. Peugeot has plans to electrify most, if not all their models in the future. Their hybrid tech is currently under development and would be ready for mass production by 2019. Also in the pipeline is an all-electric Peugeot 208 to rival the Renault Zoe.

Depending on the intricacy of the hybrid powerplant, perhaps we too will be able to purchase a plug-in hybrid Peugeot two years from now.
