Jenson Button’s Ford GT for sale, 1 of 5 VIP variants, from RM1.4 mil!

A high performance 2005 Ford GT, once belonged to the famed Formula One driver Jenson Button, will go under the hammer at the Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro Classic Car Sale.

With a low mileage of 8,350 miles (about 13,400km), the mint example is just one of five VIP variants ever to be sold in Europe. Only 101 units of the Ford GT was supplied to the continent.

Silverstone Auctions’ Sales Manager, Will Smith (no, not that Will Smith) said, “Given its inimitable heritage, prolific performance, stunning design, and thrilling driving experience, the Ford GT is a very special creation that will undoubtedly be revered for many years to come. In addition, it was once Jenson Button’s very own, adding even more exciting provenance and collectability to this particular example.”

The white with blue stripes GT carries a pre-auction estimate of £250,000 to £300,000 (from RM1.4 million to RM1.67 million). At the heart of it is a mid-mounted, hand-built, quad-cam 5.4-litre V8 engine that’s supercharged to deliver 550 hp and 678 Nm of torque.

It gets a six-speed manual transmission as standard and rockets from standstill to 100km/h in a blistering 3.5 seconds. Its top speed is 330km/h, but even that requires a speed limiter. We have a strong feeling that the bidding will go well beyond the auctioneer’s estimates, though…
