Limited run Mazda MX-5 Icon to be unveiled at Goodwood

The special edition Mazda MX-5 Icon is set to make its debut at the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed which kicks off next week in the UK.

The production number will be capped at just 600 units, making it the most exclusive MX-5 Icon compared to previous iterations of the Icons back in 2000, 2005 and 2007. The all-new ND Mazda MX-5 Icon uses the 131hp 1.5 litre engine (which is not available here in Malaysia) and does the century sprint in 8.3 seconds.2016 Mazda MX-5 Goodwood - AutoBuzz.my

Only two colours are available to choose from; Meteor Grey Mica or Crystal White Pearlescent. Both have contrasting Soul Red Metallic finishing on the side mirrors, rear spoiler, body decals and front skirt. Its new 16-inch Gunmetal alloy wheels further enhances the overall looks. Standard equipment is also upped, of which include leather seats, parking sensors and automatic lights and wipers.

Revealed earlier this year at the 2016 New York Motor Show, the folding hard-top Mazda MX-5 RF (short for Retractable Fastback) made its European debut and will be joining a host of MX-5 highlights at Goodwood. Also joining them and making their first appearance outside of North America are the MX-5 Speedster and Spyder concept cars. The one millionth production MX-5 will be on display as well to celebrate the success of the world popular sports car.2016 Mazda MX-5 Goodwood - AutoBuzz.my

Held in West Sussex, England, the Goodwood Festival of Speed starts this weekend from 24 to 26 June 2016, while the Moving Motor Show takes place on 23 June.

The Icon is expected to go on sale in August whereas the RF goes on sale sometime next year in the UK. While the Icon is unlikely to reach our shores, it’s unclear as yet whether the RF will make its appearance here. But watch this space for more updates!
