Honda Malaysia leads non-national segment, selling 43,597 units in 1H 2015

Confident with its current lineup, Honda Malaysia has set an ambitious target of selling 85,000 cars for 2015. As of June 2015, the company has achieved 51 percent of its annual sales target, selling a total of 43,597 units – up by 17 percent during the same period in 2014 (37,189 units).

The figures mean that Honda Malaysia has contributed 13.5 percent to this year’s Total Industry Volume (TIV; 670,000 units forecasted), while averaging more than 7,200 units of sales monthly. Earlier in March, they recorded their milestone achievement by selling 9,582 units, the best in the company’s history.

The Honda City remains its best seller and contributed 41 percent to the overall sales, effectively topping the non-national B-Segment category ahead of rivals such as the Toyota Vios and Nissan Almera. This is followed by the Jazz and HR-V at 19 percent and 17 percent respectively. The CR-V, HR-V and Accord, despite not as voluminous, also lead their respective segments as of June 2015.

Growth is also evident in East Malaysia with sales being 32 percent higher than the same period in 2014, up from 1,814 units to 2,390 units as of June 2015. Honda Malaysia plans to add three more dealership in East Malaysia this year on top of the existing 10. They now have a total of 82 dealerships nationwide and are planning to increase the number to 90 by 2016, a move which will help elevate annual sales target to 100,000.
