Volkswagen, Europe’s biggest car manufacturer, has just named Robbie Williams (real name Robert Peter Williams) as their new ‘Marketingleiter‘ (marketing manager in German). The 40-year-old singer-songwriter is branded as VW’s key protagonist in a multi-channel advertising campaign for the new “Club & Lounge” special models.
Speaking at the press conference, Williams said, “The job is a big change for me. It’s stepping out of the world of pop into a proper job.” Volkswagen is also cooperating with Spotify, and its customers will have exclusive access to the “Say it with a Playlist” function which creates an individualised playlist based on personal messages sent via Facebook or e-mail.
The special models comprise of the Up!, Beetle, Golf, Tiguan and Polo family, making up for a total of nine models to choose from. All nine special models can be viewed on their microsite here. Advance sales of the customised and special edition models have already begun and the cars will hit European showrooms in January next year.
As of now, there’s no word from Volkswagen Group Malaysia regarding the arrival of the Club & Lounge special edition models, but expect the plug-in hybrid Golf GTE to be introduced sometime late next year.
