There’s always the risk of compromise when it comes to producing a more civilised version of a world famous high performance sports car, with many said efforts resulting in weight increment – the bane of all sports car makers.

That said, the folks at Nissan Motor Co. Ltd have announced the beginning of sales for the 2015 Nissan GT-R, a less hardcore and more livable day-to-day version of the sports car that offers “dramatically” more comfort, all without sacrificing performance. So they say.
Changes that the 2015 model have undergone are mostly mechanical, starting with its suspension. Nissan have tweaked the damping rates, ECU and minor steering corrections to improve cornering stability. In the braking department, the shimming structure found between the brake pads and caliper pistons is new, as is the brake pads. This setup reduces the jolts produced when hard braking, and improves braking control and noise.
Tyres are now made of better material and the inner structure of the rubbers are modified to help better absorb road undulations, reducing vibration and harshness. Also contributing to the reduced vibration is the revised Steering Dynamic Damper, which has been optimised to reduce vibration while idling. Trunk carpeting is also new here for better sound insulation.
There’s no numbers to go along with this, but Nissan has retuned the engine and transmission management systems. The space between the transaxle and driveshaft have also changed, as with the bearings within the flywheel housing. The outcome? Lesser mechanical vibration and noise.
Buyers of the Premium Edition variant can choose to go with the RAYS twin-spoke aluminium alloy wheels finished in Hyper Blue Black chrome, previously an exclusive option for dealers.
For those wanting more, the Nismo-engineered Track Edition trim receives a good list of customisation, such as custom adhesive bonding for improved shell rigidity, flared front fenders with air duct outlet, stiffer suspension setup and custom RAYS forged aluminium alloy wheels and tyres.
The 2015 Nissan GT-R is sold in Japan with a starting price of RM272k (9.5 million Yen), all the way to RM337k (11.7 million Yen) for the Nismo Track Edition variant.
