- 1.6L petrol injection 16-valve Multi Point Injection (MPI) engine
- Max power 104hp, Max torque 153Nm
- Third VW CKD model in Malaysia
- Priced at RM87,888
- Special launch price at RM85,888 for first 500 units
The D-segment VW Passat was the first CKD model in this country followed by Polo Sedan and now Polo 1.6 hatchback. The significant difference between the Malaysian made Polo 1.6 and the German made Polo 1.2 is, the engine capacity, obviously. Powered by the same 1.6-liter MPI engine as the Polo Sedan CKD, it produces the same amount of power as the turbocharged Polo 1.2.
From the outside, the new Polo does have minor cosmetic changes to separate itself from the CBU model. The first thing you would notice is the chrome based headlights and the new additional foglights. Other new updates are the twin chrome bar front grille, 15-inch “Riverside” alloy wheels, front and rear fog lights, new tailight design and manually adjustable halogen headlights. The VW Polo 1.6 CKD comes in 5 different colors, Candy White, Flash Red, Pepper Grey, Reflex Silver and Deep Black.
The new hatchback now has a combination chrome, leather and fabric touches in the interior. Fabric upholstery and seats that comes with folding rear seats. Chrome surrounds for radio and light switches, AC panel and vents and steering wheel accent. Leather finishing for the gear knob, handbrake and multi-function leather steering wheel leather with tilt and telescopic adjust.
On safety aspect, VW installed dual front airbags, Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS), anti-pinch power windows in all four doors, ISOFIX child seat anchor, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Brake Assist (BA), Park Distance Control (PDC) and electronic vehicle immobilization device.
Even though powered by a larger capacity engine, the new Polo produces the same power as the Polo 1.2 at maximum power of 104 horsepower, due to its non-turbo MPI engine. Fitted only with a standard 6-speed automatic gearbox, torque figure is not that impressive as well, 153Nm at 3,800 rpm. The CBU model peaks maximum torque of 175Nm at 1,550 to 4,100 rpm via its 7-speed DSG gearbox.
VW Group Malaysia is offering a special launch price of RM85,888 for the first 500 vehicles. So, test drive the new Volkswagen Polo 1.6 CKD hatchback at all Volkswagen dealerships from 24th January onwards.
