Mitsubishi UK’s SVP Division unleashes the new “Barbarian II”

Mitsubishi Motors UK has extended it’s L200 range (essentially the Triton for us) with the unveiling of a new special edition Barbarian SVP II, the second vehicle to be produced by its SVP (Special Vehicle Projects) division with the first introduced just last year.

Only 250 units will be made – half in a pearlescent Diamond Black appearance with the remaining in metallic Atlantic Grey – both supplemented by Orange accents. The Barbarian’s facade is enhanced with a set of bespoke 17-inch wheels, also finished in black and orange, together with wheel arch extensions, a new SVP grille and roof rails.Elsewhere, for added convenience, the Barbaric Triton comes fitted with load bed illumination and a spring-assisted tailgate with soft-opening damper.

Inside, not much is different from the Triton VGT Athlete Edition we have locally, except that each SVP II’s individual limited-edition number, plus the SVP logo, is stitched onto the headrests of the Barbarian-inspired ‘six-pack’ leather seats with suede-like ‘Alston’ inserts. There’s something about those seat insert arrangements that remind us of those seen in a Ferrari F430. The distinctive theme continues with orange illuminated door entry guards and front and rear foot-well mood lighting.Standard equipment includes the Mitsubishi Smartphone Link Display Audio (SDA) system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, cruise control and a reverse camera. Power is sourced from a 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine with 178 hp and 430 Nm of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic with steering-wheel paddle shifters. Prices for the limited production “Barbarian” starts from £29,830 (RM 164k) before taxes.
