Hitachi automotive batteries arrive on Malaysian shores, prices start from RM250 onwards

Hitachi, through their official battery distributor Borneo Technical Co (M) Sdn Bhd, have launched two series of maintenance-free automotive batteries – the ES and MFX series. They are priced upwards of RM250 and RM350 respectively.

These wet-cell Hitachi batteries are fully imported from Thailand and the technologies that go into making them are 100 percent Japanese. At the launch, Hitachi Chemical Asia-Pacific Pte Ltd’s (HCAP) Managing Director, Mr Shigeru Fujita highlighted that there is a huge potential for the Hitachi batteries to succeed in the Malaysian market. Hitachi is also one of the largest OEM battery suppliers in Japan, dealing with Toyota, Nissan, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, FUSO, Daihatsu and more.

This confidence stems from the products themselves, with HCAP’s General Manager Mr Jackie Chuah explaining some of the batteries’ key advantages, which incorporates double-sealed lids to prevent water/electrolyte leakage, expanded grids to increase lifespan by disrupting acid corrosion, cut corner plates that prevent short circuits and the use of Lead/Calcium alloy that’s exclusively designed for hot tropical countries.

Another appealing factor is that these wet-cell batteries are practically maintenance free and comes with an illuminating indicator for quick and convenient checkups. Green light indicates that the battery is at a healthy charge, Red requires charging and if it remains unlit, then it’s time for a new one. But fret not, these batteries are designed to last.

You will be able to purchase these batteries at any one of their 8,000 dealers nationwide, and every purchase (of the MFX series only) comes with a 2-year or 40,000km warranty period. Borneo Technical is on the offensive and targets to sell about 30,000 units a month and hopes to achieve a 20 percent market share by next year.
