Jaguar updates the F-Type range, now includes AWD and 6-speed manual [+Video]

Purists can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as Jaguar’s sexy F-Type finally gets a six-speed manual transmission. Along with the gearbox, Jaguar also introduces the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) F-Type to complement the existing rear-wheel drive F-Type.

Like the existing eight-speed Quickshift transmission in the F-Type, the six-speed manual was developed by ZF. The six-speed transmission is not only compact in size, it’s also highly efficient thanks to its innovative semi-dry sump lubrication system.

The shift mechanism, right down to the placement of the gearknob in the center console, has been thoroughly engineered to provide the driver with a “completely engaging driving experience”. Jaguar also paid attention to the the position of the brake and throttle pedals for heel-and-toe shifts.

However the manual box option will be available exclusively on the V6 RWD F-Type models only, so unfortunately you still can’t have a manual V8 F-Type.

Meanwhile, the AWD system is offered in the V6 F-Type S and the V8 F-Type R models and only coupled with the eight-speed auto. The AWD F-Type is rear-wheel biased with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) providing ‘torque on demand’ to deliver torque to the front wheels only when required to enhance traction. Jaguar has fitted stiffer front control arm bushes and recalibrated the dampers and springs up to 10% stiffer in the AWD F-Type.

Externally the AWD F-Type gains a more prominent power bulge on the bonnet and new side vents along with discreet AWD badges. The addition of the manual and AWD variants bring the F-Type range now to a total of 14 derivatives.
