Ducati Monster 796 CKD has arrived in Malaysia

The Ducati Monster 796 CKD has finally arrived at our shores much to the delight of Ducati Monster fans. The Monster 796 is the swankier cousin to the already hugely successful Monster 795 with debuted here in 2011.

The 795 has a slightly lower ride height of just over an inch to cater for our markets, and indeed it has, but the 796 has ABS as standard equipment, wider tires, more power & single sided swing arms! The hallmarks of the Monster 796 gives it more bite to chomp its way through the market share that sits in between the wake of the Monster 696 & the 1000 too.

“This mid-sized Monster is bound to become a new favourite amongst Malaysian riders and we estimate that this model will contribute 35% of Ducati’s sales for 2014…” states Datuk Wira SM Faisal, NAZA Group of Companies Joint Group Executive Chairman.

Lending credibility to Datuk SM Faisal’s predictions, the Monster 796 is indeed worth its salt in equipment, performance & style. The Monster 796 Corse Stripe which is the variant that takes the lead here is yours for RM63,888. Such exceptional value is only possible when Italians bike makers cross paths with ambitious Malaysian enterprise. The CKD units from Thailand is a whopping RM20k++ cheaper than the former CBU imports, indeed, Santa has arrived a wee bit too early this year.

Talking facts and figures, the Monster 796 spits out 87hp at 8250 rpm and 79Nm of torque at 6250 rpm. Monstrosity that is powered by a lightweight 803cc Desmodue air-cooled engine sitting in an immensely strong Trellis Crome-Molly frame. Crafted with quality componentry & keeping the weight down at many levels, this Monster is all of the 169kg (373lbs) of form, functionality & fun. With 43mm Kayaba USD forks, a single swing arm controlled by an adjustable Sachs unit, higher bars & a reworked seat, the Monster 796 is tuned to the resounds of a comfortable and yet confident ride.

After more than 20 years of success since it first flashed its bare innards to the world at the Cologne Motorcycle Show in 1992, the Monster is still wanting to come out of everyone’s “motorcycling closet” and take you for a thrilling ride into the unknown. You know you want one, but you never dared to say. And to those who are already good friends with the 2 wheeled beast, you’ll probably want to try and tame this one too.
