Honda Malaysia announced the completion of its first solar power installation initiative at its Alor Gajah plant in Melaka, which was also officiated by the Chief Minister of Melaka, Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf bin Yusoh.
The completion of the projects comes after a RM14 million self-investment, and sees approximately 8,960 solar panels installed across the rooftops of the facility, which has a capacity of over 5.6 megawatts (MW).
In total, the system is expected to generate approximately 7,042 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable energy annually, reducing the production plant’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 4,584 tonnes annually, equivalent to approximately 10% of its total carbon emissions.
Complementing the solar power system is a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) that can store excess solar energy for later use, essentially like a giant power bank.
The company also stated that it plans to expand its solar project to its Parts Supply Warehouse in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam in 2027, and added that its dealer partners have also embraced environmentally responsible practices such as rainwater harvesting and proper battery disposal initiatives.

These green initiatives enable Honda Malaysia to secure the Climate and Sustainability Industry Readiness Index (COSIRI) certification, scoring a 3.07 star rating for its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.
On the regional product front, Thailand has welcomed the updated Honda Civic, which sees the e:HEV variant receiving the S+ Shift feature that is derived from the Honda Prelude.
The S+ Shift essentially recreates the sensation of an eight-speed automatic transmission, with simulated gear changes for a more engaging driving experience, despite the utilisation of an e-CVT gearbox.
Apart from the addition of S+ Shift, the powertrain on the Civic e:HEV remains the same, with a series-parallel hybrid setup consisting of a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine that makes 141 hp/182 Nm. This is paired with a front-mounted traction motor that makes 184 hp and 315 Nm of torque, which, combined, produce 203 hp.
