Koenigsegg just doubled a land speed record… with Lego?

Koenigsegg has just broken yet another land speed record, but this is no ordinary achievement. The record? 111 km/h — more than double the previous benchmark. Sounds a little slow for a Koenigsegg, doesn’t it? That’s because this wasn’t a typical hypercar we’d expect from the Swedish carmaker, but a Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear built almost entirely from Lego pieces.

The record attempt was a collaboration between the Lego Group and Koenigsegg to celebrate the launch of the new Lego Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear kit. Simply unveiling the set online clearly wasn’t enough, so the two companies decided there was only one logical thing to do: build a life-sized Lego Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear and send it up the famed Goodwood hill climb.

Driven by none other than Markus Lundh — Koenigsegg’s test driver, who set the hill climb record in the Sadair’s Spear during the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year. Of course, powering the car is not the 1,625 hp twin-turbo V8, but instead lies a small electric motor propelling it to a record 111 km/h over the 1.86 km hill climb. That’s more than double the previous record, which recorded just 50 km/h.

The full-scale model was constructed from 327,906 Lego elements, tipping the scales to approximately 1,800kg, of which 400kg are Lego elements. Altogether, it took both companies more than 9,400 hours to develop and construct the record-breaking model.

Everything was built to scale using Lego. From the seats, rear wing, disc brakes, and down to the actual vehicle key itself. It even features a working Ghost mode — a mode that uses built-in hydraulics to automatically open all of the car’s doors, the front hood, and the rear clamshell simultaneously at the press of a button.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Koenigsegg, Christian von Koenigsegg, said: “Innovation and extreme performance are at the core of everything we do. To see the Sadair’s Spear recreated not only as a highly detailed 1:8 scale Lego Technic model, but also as a full-scale, drivable vehicle, is truly remarkable. Our partnership with the Lego Group demonstrates how a shared passion for engineering and creativity can result in something extraordinary.”

If this publicity stunt has won you over, the 1:8 scale Lego Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar kit features 4,104 pieces to work with. Included in this kit is a genuine moving V8 piston engine, a unique Triplex front and rear suspension, a functional nine-speed gearbox, and a new rotating gear indicator disc that visually displays which gear the model is currently in.

Just like its life-sized counterpart, the 1:8 Lego Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear also features a functioning ‘Ghost Mode’. Lift the rear clamshell, and it automatically opens the rear clamshell and front bonnet, rotates the dihedral synchro-helix doors, and folds out the mirrors.

The 1:8 scale kit will be available to Lego Insiders through Early Access from 1 July 2026, priced at GBP399.99 (approximately RM2,163). It will then go on general sale online and in stores from 4 July 2026. Just don’t expect the full-size, drivable version.
