Genting Highlands will officially begin collection of a “road charge” for all drivers entering the hill resort area starting this Thursday, May 28. The payment will be collected at two entry points, namely Genting Sempah and the Gohtong Jaya roundabout, according to a new fee structure announced yesterday by Lingkaran Cekap (LCSB), the authorised road operator for Jalan Genting Highlands.

The road charges vary depending on vehicle types. Class 1 vehicles including passenger cars and vans will be charged RM5 per entry; Class 2 vehicles (medium-size lorries) will be charged RM15, while Class 3 heavy lorries will have to pay RM25 for access to the road. Taxis, categorised as Class 4, will be charged RM3.30 per entry, while buses in Class 5 will pay RM5.

Emergency vehicles and motorcycles are exempted from the road charge, without the need for any prior registration.

According to LCSB, all Class 2, 3, 4, and 5 vehicles are required to utilise the designated Lorong Khas (special lanes) or use the licence plate recognition (LPR) system. The latter is also used for private vehicles belonging to public servants whose place of work is at identified Government Institutions in Genting Highlands, where they can register through LCSB’s website (linked here) to be exempted from the road charges.

These designated institutions include schools, clinics, police and fire stations, as well as district offices:

  • SK Sri Layang
  • SMK Sri Layang
  • institut Aminuddin Baki
  • balai Polis Genting Highlands
  • Balai Polis Gohtong Jaya
  • Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Genting Highlands
  • Klinik Desa Sri Layang
  • Pejabat Daerah Kecil Genting Highlands
  • Pejabat Daerah dan Tanah Bentong
  • Pejabat Cawangan Majlis Perbandaran Bentong (Cawangan Genting Highlands)
  • Pejabat Setiausaha Kerajaan (SUK) Negeri Pahang (Cawangan Genting Highlands)

For eligible permanent residents of Genting Highlands, LCSB will be extending a preferential rate beginning June 28, which will be 10% lower than the normal rate per entry. Up to two Class 1 vehicles can be registered per household, and registered vehicles will not incur any charges prior to June 28.

In addition, LCSB will also be offering a six-month season pass scheme to permanent residents, which will entitle holders to unlimited entries into Jalan Genting Highlands throughout its validity period via the LPR or special lanes. The season pass is priced at RM900, and must require a valid address in Genting Highlands during registration.
