Hongqi HS6 sets Guinness World Record for longest PHEV SUV range at 2,327 km

We’ve seen several Chinese carmakers claim impressive range figures of around 1,200 to 1,300 km per tank from their plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, but Hongqi, often dubbed China’s Rolls-Royce, has taken things a step further. Rather than relying on marketing claims, Hongqi has made it official by setting a Guinness World Record for the longest PHEV SUV range, achieving an astonishing 2,327 km with the Hongqi HS6 PHEV.

The incredulous mileage means that the Hongqi HS6 even beat the record holder for sedans at 2,208 km, held by the Roewe D7 DMH, by 119 km.

In its attempt to set the record distance, the Hongqi HS6 departed from Shangri-La on 30 October, passing through Kunming, Baise, and Wuzhou, before finally arriving in Guangzhou on 3 November.

The Honqi HS6 positions itself as a mid-sized SUV measuring 4,995 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,760 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. Although offered only as a five-seater, it is sized similarly to larger six/seven-seater SUVs like the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, and Mazda CX-80.

In its PHEV configuration, the HS6 pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 148 hp and 225 Nm with an electric motor. It’s available in both two-wheel and four-wheel-drive variants, delivering a combined output of 225 hp and 495 hp, respectively, and a top speed of 205 km/h.

According to Sohu, as reported by CarNewsChina, two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery options are offered — 23.9 kWh and 39.5 kWh — delivering pure electric ranges of up to 250 km, and an officially rated total range of 1,650 km under CLTC testing standards, depending on configuration.

The system supports 4C fast charging (where C represents how many times the battery’s capacity can be charged in one hour), enabling a 20-80% recharge in just 15 minutes.

Living up to its nickname, the interior is packed with premium materials and advanced technology to deliver a truly first-class experience. Notable highlights include a letterbox-style digital instrument cluster paired with an integrated dual-screen display that stretches from the centre console to the passenger side, along with a zero-gravity front passenger seat featuring massage functions.

For now, the Hongqi HS6 PHEV has yet to be officially launched in China, with pre-orders set to begin on November 15. According to Sohu, the SUV is expected to be priced between RMB200,000 and RMB300,000 (approx RM130k to RM195k), depending on configuration and battery options, similar to other mid-to-large SUVs in the segment in China.
