Polestar 3 sets new Guinness World Record for longest range ever achieved on an EV

Polestar has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance travelled by an electric SUV on a single charge, covering 935.44 km. The feat was achieved by the newly launched long-range variant of the Polestar 3, which uses the same battery as before but is powered by a single motor.

The drive took 22 hours and 57 minutes to complete in mixed weather conditions and on public UK roads — achieving an efficiency rating of 12.1 kWh/100 km. Driven by Sam Clarke, Kevin Booker, and Richard Parker, the team switched every three hours to maintain alertness.

Not only did the Polestar 3 reach its official WLTP-rated range of 706 km, the company stated that the car still had 20% to spare at that point, allowing it to push on much further. When it eventually showed 0%, the car still delivered an extra 12.8 km — allowing the team to drive up to a charging stop where the challenge concluded, and the final distance notarised.

The Polestar 3 Long Range is powered by a single rear-mounted motor producing 320 kW (295 hp) and 489 Nm, allowing for a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) sprint time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h.

Power comes from a 111 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which supports 250 kW DC fast charging, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in just 30 minutes, and 11 kW AC charging, which can fully charge the battery in 11 hours. The Polestar 3 is also equipped with vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-grid (V2X) capabilities.

Polestar Chief Executive Officer, Michael Lohscheller, said, “We are very proud to say we have a world record holder in the Polestar family! This official Guinness World Record for range is another proof point that Polestar 3 is setting new standards. We will continue to push the boundaries of technology and electric performance.”

You might recall that the Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup truck recently claimed a EV range record of 1,704.6 km, which is nearly double what the Polestar 3 achieved here. But that was done solely through self-reported data; the Polestar 3, on the other hand, was officially adjudicated by Guinness World Records judge Paulina Sapinska, with Webfleet documenting and verifying video footage, odometer and GPS readings, as well as battery data.

Polestar assures that the vehicle was completely unmodified, riding on stock 20-inch wheels fitted with Michelin Sport 4 EV tyres.
