After months of spy shots and previews, the all-new 2025 Proton eMAS 5 (stylised as e.MAS 5) has finally launched in Malaysia, as the national carmaker’s second fully-electric (EV) model. Available in two variants, Prime and Premium, the eMAS 5 is priced from RM59,800 on-the-road, without insurance, making it the first EV in the nation to be priced under RM100,000.

In conjunction with the launch, Proton will be offering an exclusive launch rebate worth RM3,000 from now until 31st December 2025, which drops the sticker prices of the Proton eMAS 5 down to RM56,800 and RM69,800 for the two variants respectively.
Initial units of the Proton eMAS 5 will be fully imported (CBU) from China, but the compact EV hatchback will soon be locally assembled (CKD) at Proton’s new EV plant in Tanjung Malim once construction is completed by the year-end.

Sharing its origins with the Geely Xingyuan, the Proton eMAS 5 also retains most of its donor car’s overall hatchback design, and features styling elements similar to its larger sibling, the Proton eMAS 7.
But Proton did not just slap on a new emblem and call it a day; the national carmaker says it has invested over 752,000 man-hours to localise the eMAS 5 for the Malaysian market. Amongst the upgrades is an upgraded chassis that is said to be stronger than the Geely Xingyuan.
And don’t let the bubbly looks fool you, either. Measuring 4,135 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width, 1,580 mm in height and a wheelbase of 2,650 mm, the Proton eMAS 5 is also a larger hatchback compared to the Proton Iriz and the Perodua Myvi.
Standard exterior equipment of the Proton eMAS 5 includes:

Inside, the Proton eMAS 5 features a 14.6-inch centre-mounted touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, running on Proton’s Atlas Auto operating system, which also supports Proton’s Bahasa Melayu voice recognition, named “Aisyah”. The driver gets an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster, with gear changes done via a gear shift lever on the centre console, differing from the eMAS 7’s column-mounted setup.
There’s also 32 individual storage compartments throughout the interior, including a 20-litre space under the rear bench, a 70-litre frunk, and a boot space of 375 litres, expandable to 1,320 litres with the rear seats folded, although they don’t fold flat to the boot floor.
As standard, the interior is configured in a darker grey interior colour, dubbed Flint Grey. Opt for the Premium variant in either Marble Cream or Quartz Rose, though, and this will be swapped to a two-tone white and blue upholstery.

Powering the Proton eMAS 5 Prime variant is a rear-mounted electric motor making 79 hp (58 kW) and 130 Nm. Equipped with a 30.12 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack sourced from CATL, the Proton eMAS 5 Prime boasts a range of 225 km (WLTP).
The top-range Premium variant, meanwhile, is equipped with a more powerful rear motor that produces 116 hp (85 kW) and 150 Nm. It’s also euipped with a larger 40.16 kWh LFP battery, bumping its range up to 325 km (WLTP).
Both variants of the Proton eMAS 5 support 6.6 kW AC charging, taking 4.3 hours and 5.9 hours to go from 10-80% on the Prime and Premium variants respectively. The Prime variant supports DC charging at 53 kW, while the Premium variant supports 71 kW DC. Both variants can be recharged from 30-80% in 21 minutes.
For safety systems, the Proton eMAS 5 is equipped with six airbags, a tyre pressure monitor, a reverse camera, and passive cruise control as standard. The Prime variant also gets the following advanced driver assistance (ADAS) features as standard:
- Blind spot monitoring (BSM)
- Lane change warning (LCW)
- Rear cross traffic alert (RCTA)
- Rear collision warning (RCW)
- Door opening warning (DOW)
The Premium variant adds on the following features:
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
- Automatic emergency braking (AEB)
- Forward collision warning (FCW)
- Emergency brake assist (EBA)
- Lane departure warning (LDW)
- Traffic sign recognition (TSR)
- 360-degree surround view camera with 3D view
The Proton eMAS 5 comes as standard with a six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, five years of unlimited internet data, and an eight-year or 160,000 km high voltage electric battery and components warranty.
