Aside from the X55, Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd., better known by its acronym, BAIC, has also debuted the Jeep-inspired BAIC BJ40 Plus off-road SUV in Malaysia, which is offered in a sole variant. Its price tag is expected to range between RM18X,XXX and RM19X,XXX. It is to be noted that the BJ40 Plus that has just landed here in Malaysia is the first-generation model and not the second-generation model that debuted in August last year.
Built on a ladder frame chassis, the BAIC BJ40 Plus measures 4,645 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, and 1,871 mm tall, and is underpinned by a 2,745 mm long wheelbase. Take a look at the BAIC BJ40 Plus, and it wouldn’t be hard to guess that it was made to go off-road. To accomplish that, BAIC claims the SUV to have a minimum ground clearance of 210 mm, a 37° approach angle, and a 31° departure angle. It also has a maximum fording depth of over 600 mm and a maximum trench-crossing width of 500 mm.

Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, power is sent to all four wheels via the brand’s part-time 4-wheel drive (4WD) system. To make the off-roading experience easier, the SUV is also equipped with a centre differential lock.
