Italy has raised yet another monster of a carmaker called Giamaro Automobili, and they have now unveiled their new hypercar—the Katla. Named after an active Icelandic volcano, it’s got enough power to blow your face off with 2,157 hp, plus a price to match—EUR2.47 million (approx. RM11.8 million) before optional extras.
Unlike many electric hypercars boasting outrageous figures by slapping powerful electric motors onto a large battery, Giamaro does it all the old fashioned way—explosions.
Giamaro, by the way, was only formed in 2021 by a father and son duo, Giacomo and Pierfrancesco Commendatore. The father made his fortune by selling mattresses through tele-sales in the 80s and 90s and was also one of the first investors in Pagani – although they eventually split due to differing opinions.
It’s a weird backstory for sure, but the car is definitely anything but.

Starting with the star of the show—a 7.0-litre quad-turbo V12 developed entirely in-house sits menacingly behind the driver. On full power, it unleashes a whopping 2,157 hp and 2,008 Nm. The engine is constructed in a 120-degree hot-V layout which reduces turbo lag, improves engine response, and allows for a more compact construction and is entrusted to Italtecnica – who were also responsible for the engine on the Kimera EV037 – for production.
Power is sent only to the rear wheels through a seven-speed automated manual gearbox – and we’re curious to see how the rear tyres manage to handle the traction. Meanwhile, an 11-speed dual-clutch transmission is still in development and will be offered as an option once it’s ready.

The chassis of the car is based on a carbon-fibre monocoque construction, allowing for a weight of only 1,450 kg. This gives it a power-to-weight ratio of an insane 1,488 hp per tone—that’s more than a Bugatti Tourbillon and about 11 times more than a Honda Civic.
The car boasts an active double wishbone suspension crafted from CNC-milled solid aluminum blocks. It stops with carbon ceramic disc brakes, featuring 10-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers at the rear. Giamaro also revealed partnerships with several key collaborators—most notably Bridgestone, who are developing a bespoke set of Potenza Sport tyres specifically for the Katla.

Calling the Katla “nice” hardly does it justice—the car’s bodywork is sculpted around its engine for a striking, purposeful design. The front end draws inspiration from fighter jet afterburners, featuring bold square intakes that give it a befitting aggressive look.
The Katla comes with three keys, letting owners decide just how much thrill they want behind the wheel. The white key takes a conservative approach, limiting power to somewhere between 400 and 800 hp. The black key ramps things up to 1,670 hp, while the red key unleashes the full 2,157 hp—similar to the Bugatti Tourbillon’s “speed key”.
Giamaro wants every Katla to be truly unique, offering full customization across every aspect of the car. With everything adjustable, customers can tailor the driving experience to their liking—whether they want it to feel like a Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, or something entirely their own.
“We don’t build cars for customers — we build them with them,” said company founders Giacomo and Pierfrancesco Commendatore. “That’s the only way to create the kind of authentic bond that transforms each vehicle into a personal expression — an extension of who you are, and how you move through the world.”
