The third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan will be making its official entrance into Australia soon, with five variants across three trim levels already confirmed to be launched in May 2025 in the Land Down Under – more than 18 months after the model first debuted in Europe.
The five variants are listed as the 110TSI Life, 110TSI Elegance, 150TSI R-Line, 150TSI Elegance, and 195TSI R-Line. While official pricing is not confirmed yet, Drive reports that the 110TSI Life will be starting at AUD43,990 (approx. RM121k).
The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan in Australia will be powered by four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines across the board in three different configurations. The 1.4-litre version with 149 hp and 250 Nm is a front-wheel drive (FWD) only option, whilst the more powerful 2.0-litre version with 203 hp and 320 Nm is available for all-wheel drive (AWD) models.
Only the top-of-the-range 195TSI R-Line variant will be receiving the most potent engine of the lot, with the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine putting down 265 hp and 400 Nm, also replacing the outgoing 162TSI Tiguan R.
There will be no diesel option for the third-generation Tiguan in Australia after it was dropped in the country in 2023. Mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid options found overseas will also not be available for the region at launch.
The 2025 Volkswagen takes some design cues from its bigger cousin, the Touareg. The boot space is now at 652 litres, an increase of 37 litres from last time. The 1.4-litre 110TSI Elegance variant will get LED Plus headlights, leather interior, heated and ventilated front seats, and illuminated grille strip.
Meanwhile, the 2.0-litre 150TSI Elegance variant receives a large 15-inch Discover Pro Max infotainment display, adaptive chassis control (DCC Pro), and HD Matrix LED headlights. In addition, the 2.0-litre 150TSI R-Line gets an R-Line body kit, 19-inch allow wheels, progressive steering, and sports seats.

As for the 195TSI R-Line, it sits on 20-inch alloy wheels, and gets an additional heads-up display, ventilated seats with a massage function, heated steering wheel, and driver assistance systems.
Across all variants, the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan will have a 12.9-inch touch-screen with built-in sat-nav, 360-degree camera system, digital driver display, wireless smartphone connectivity, and Volkswagen’s travel assist that is integrated with adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping technology.
Currently in Malaysia, the marque’s bestselling SUV is currently the Tiguan Allspace from the previous generation model, retailing at RM258,990. Our local variant is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI engine with 220 hp and 350 Nm connected to a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.
Last year, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VCPM) confirmed that a new SUV will be introduced in Malaysia to sit in between the current Tiguan Allspace and Touareg.
The German titan did not specify when the launch date is or what the model might be, but it could be the third-gen Tiguan the Aussies are getting later this year. And since Australia is a right-hand drive (RHD) market, could we see it on our roads here soon too?
