These Nissan Almera used only 7 litres of fuel to travel from KL to Ipoh!

Thanks to its tiny 1.0-litre turbocharged engine, the Nissan Almera has always been known to be fuel efficient. But just how thrifty can they be? According to the winner of the recent Nissan Lightfoot Quest 2024 challenge, Muhammad Nifail Bin Basri, that figure is a remarkable 28.61 km/l (3.49 l/100km)!

The challenge took some 21 Almera owners and nine media teams on a road trip starting from the Nissan 3S Flagship Store in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, and finishing at Ipoh, Perak. Throughout the entire 203 km journey, the winning team only consumed seven litres of petrol. Not only is that much lower than the Nissan Almera’s official fuel consumption figures (18.4 km/l), at today’s RON95 petrol prices, that’s only RM14.35 in fuel costs!

The most impressive part about the feat is that it’s all done in normal, real-world conditions. The contestants are given a time limit of three hours to complete the journey, including passing through traffic in urban areas, and you’ll also have to keep the air conditioning on throughout the entire journey – no phony tricks allowed to eke out a few more kilometres.

All the cars in the challenge, which are the participants’ own steed, must also be kept completely stock, with all body and trim panels, as well as spare wheel in the boot still intact, and also accompanied by a passenger.

Aside from the winner, the other contestants also achieved pretty commendable results: 27.31 km/l (3.66 l/100km) and 27.14 km/l (3.68 l/100km) for the second and third place finishers respectively, and even our friends from the media – who aren’t as familiar with the cars as their actual owners – achieved a fuel consumption figure as low as 28.2 km/l (3.55 l/100km)!

“We are proud to be holding the Nissan Lightfoot Quest once again, this time to showcase the exceptional fuel efficiency of the Nissan Almera 1.0L Turbo,” said Edaran Tan Chong Motor CEO, Khoo Cheng Pah. “I would like to thank all the participants of the Nissan Lightfoot Quest 2024, particularly the passionate Nissan Almera owners and members of the media for pushing their vehicles and challenging themselves to unlock commendable levels of fuel efficiency in the Nissan Almera Turbo.”
