Over the weekend, we spotted a right-hand drive (RHD) Zeekr X electric vehicle (EV) roaming here in Malaysia. CarNewsChina also reported that the Zeekr brand will be making its launch here in Malaysia with Sentinel Automotive Sdn Bhd as its partner. But who is Sentinel Automotive?
According to the company’s profile on the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), Sentinel Automotive Sdn Bhd was incorporated very recently on May 27, 2024, which is just slightly over two weeks ago, and is based in Kuala Lumpur. However, its owner and sole shareholder, Karrus Automotive Sdn Bhd isn’t new.
Mr Mohamad Reza Bin Abdul Mutalib is the Founder and Director of Karrus Automotive and Lotus Karz. Founded in 2019, the two companies are the sole and exclusive franchisors of Subaru and Lotus cars respectively in Malaysia. Aside from Subaru and Lotus, Karrus Automotive also runs a pre-owned luxury car dealership known as Karrus Private Garage.
With the RHD Zeekr X spotted here in Malaysia, we can expect the car to be the brand’s first model to be launched in the country. It’s built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture 2 (SEA2) EV platform, which also underpins the Smart #1, Smart #3, and the Volvo EX30.

Globally, the Zeekr X is available with two powertrain options, namely a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) option, similar to the Smart #1 Premium and Brabus. The Zeekr X is the premium EV brand’s third model after the Zeekr 001, as well as the 009 MPV which is expected to be the brand’s next model to enter Malaysia after the X.
