Porsche Taycan halves AC charging time with new optional upgrade – approx. RM8k

A new official upgrade is now available for the Porsche Taycan to halve the AC charging time to 4.8 hours from the original 9.5 hours. Essentially a 19.2-kW onboard charger (OBC) upgrade (from the original 11 kW), the package retails at $1,850.15 (approx. RM8,179.51) and requires an estimated 12 hours of labour for installation.

The part number for the AC charger installation kit is ‘9J1.044.900.31’ and it fits all Taycan variants. It reduces the AC charging time (from 0 to 100%) for the ‘standard battery’ Porsche Taycan (79.2 kWh battery) to 4.8 hours from 9.5 hours. As for the ‘Performance Battery Plus’ versions of the Taycan (93.4 kWh battery), the AC charging time from 0 to 100% is reduced to 5.3 hours from the original 10.5 hours.

Porsche says the Porsche Service Centres will be able to install the kit for you with an estimated 12-hour installation time. For new and potential customers of the Porsche Taycan, they can get their cars fitted with the 19.2-kW OBC by simply selecting the ‘KB4’ option in the configurator.

To take full advantage of the new 19.2-kW OBC upgrade, Porsche Taycan owners can purchase a new 19.2-kW home wallbox charger (part number ‘HCHH0LAA’) that is now available on the Porsche Shop. Equipped on the wallbox is a 5-inch touchscreen and WiFi connectivity for software updates. The charger must be hard-wired directly to a 100-amp circuit by a professional electrician for best performance. It can also be connected to lower-capacity circuits as the unit is adjustable.
